FINANCIAL INDUSTRY COMPETENCY STANDARDS
Setting Global Standards For Financial Practitioners

The Financial Industry Competency Standards (FICS) is a comprehensive quality assurance framework with a certification and accreditation system that aims at raising the quality of the financial workforce and training providers.

The Wealth Management Institute (WMI) is appointed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) as a lead provider of FICS-accredited training and assessment programmes for the following job families under the FICS framework:

(1) Wealth Management – Relationship Management – High Net Worth
(2) Wealth Management – Investment Advisory Services
(3) Wealth Management – Trust & Estate Planning
(4) Wealth Management – Trust Administration

As an appointed Lead Provider, WMI will also

• Launch FICS-accredited assessment programmes for all 4 job families;
• Assist financial institutions on their adoption of FICS and
• Provide general information on the career opportunities in the wealth management industry related to the programmes administered by WMI.

The WMI is also the first external training provider to receive the FICS accreditation status from the Institute of Banking & Finance (IBF) as an Accredited Financial Training Provider for the "WMI Certificate in Private Banking" programme in the area of Wealth Management: Relationship Management – High Net Worth (Job Role IV). The programme provides a "one-stop" FICS - accredited training and assessment service for the job role.

The scope of accreditation is as follows:

• Acquire Clients and Perform Acceptance Review (Degree 5)
• Perform Client Needs Analysis and Develop Recommendation (Degree 6)
• Implement Recommendation (Degree 4)
• Service Client Accounts (Degree 5)
• Acquire and Apply Wealth Management Industry and Product Knowledge (Degree 4)
• Comply with Wealth Management Legislations, Regulations and Industry Codes of Practice (Degree 4)

The WMI Advanced Wealth Management Programme (AWMP) is designed in line with FICS in the area of Wealth Management: Relationship Management – High Net Worth (Job Role V) and Investment Advisory Services (Job Role V).

The scope of accreditation is as follows:

Relationship Management – High Net Worth (Job Role V)
• Acquire Clients and Perform Acceptance Review (Degree 6)
• Perform Client Needs Analysis and Develop Recommendation (Degree 6)
• Implement Recommendation (Degree 5)
• Service Client Accounts (Degree 6)
• Perform Control and Monitoring Functions (Degree 5)
• Acquire and Apply Wealth Management Industry and Product Knowledge (Degree 5)
• Comply with Wealth Management Legislations, Regulations and Industry Codes of Practice (Degree 5)

Investment Advisory Services (Job Role V)
• Perform Client Needs Analysis and Develop Recommendation (Degree 6)
• Implement Recommendation (Degree 6)
• Manage Client Accounts (Degree 6)
• Acquire and Apply Wealth Management Industry and Product Knowledge (Degree 6)
• Comply with Wealth Management Legislations, Regulations and Industry Codes of Practice (Degree 6)

The executive programme “The Psychology of Being a Trusted Advisor” has also received accreditation for the Relationship Management – High Net Worth job family for the competency unit :

• Acquire Clients and Perform Acceptance Review (Degree 5)
